Rejoined First Data (previously employed from 2004 to 2007) as a companywide senior leader to transform internal communications.

  • Motivated a team of 13 (direct team of six and dotted-line team of seven, including two Vice Presidents and four Directors), and partnered with senior leaders, marketing, and government relations.

Served as senior-level internal communications counselor for Brookhaven Science Associates LLC (BSA), a company founded by Battelle Memorial Institute and State University of New York’s Stony Brook University to operate U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory with $1,100,000,000 annual budget. Managed and developed three direct reports, and led collaboration with media, government relations, graphics, web, video, and photography teams to deliver results. Led transformation of internal communications. Led executive communications, including employee, supervisor, and group meetings, and biweekly leadership memo. Counseled leadership on responses to difficult issues.

  • Provided strategic advice and action plans for HR challenges, including government shutdown preparation, pay freeze, voluntary RIFs, and introducing retiree medical cost-sharing.
  • Transformed all-employee meetings into engaging, two-way dialogue and multimedia-rich events.
  • Chaired award-winning safety communications committee, contributing to urgent culture shift, achieving stunning drops in recordable injury rates for 2012 and 2013 to lowest in 66 years, crucial for company to retain management contract.   • Reduced staff 25% while refocusing team’s efforts, challenged status quo, introduced cost-effective contemporary communications tools, and eliminated dated and costly tools.
  • Influenced culture to embrace digital communications, reducing paper 95%, achieving $300,000 annual savings, transitioning 65-year-old weekly B&W newspaper to integrated digital and targeted color print strategy to reinforce stakeholder alignment, improving timeliness, and keeping print for non-computer staff.
